Mexico City in June (2027): Weather, Prices & Best Things to Do

June is the month we would point people toward if they had read about Mexico City's air and been put off. The rains arrive, the valley clears, and the temperature drops back from May's peak into the mid-twenties. The city turns green, the light before an evening storm is the best of the year, and the prices are still low-season.

What you accept in exchange is a wet afternoon most days. Our planning recommendation is that this is a far easier constraint to work around than May's, because rain is predictable in a way ozone is not: it arrives in the afternoon, it usually passes, and the morning before it is dependable.

Temperature and Humidity

June is cooler than May, not warmer, which surprises people expecting summer to escalate. Average highs sit near 25°C against May's 27°C, with lows around 12°C. The cloud cover and rain that define the month are what bring the temperature down, and the effect is that daytime temperatures in June are close to those in winter, with nights that are cool rather than cold.

Humidity rises with the rains, so the dry crispness of the winter months is gone. At this altitude it remains comfortable rather than oppressive.

Rain Pattern

This is the month the wet season properly begins. Published figures put June at roughly 15 to 16 rain days and around 173 to 175 mm, a step change from May and from anything earlier in the calendar. The important qualifier is the shape of it: rain in Mexico City arrives as afternoon and evening showers rather than as all-day drizzle, and summer showers here are frequently described as near-daily but rarely prolonged.

In practice that means a June itinerary works if it is front-loaded. Mornings are reliably usable, afternoons are a gamble, and evenings are often clear again after a storm has passed.

Sky and Outdoor Conditions

What typically happens is a bright morning, cloud building from late morning, a heavy shower in the afternoon, and a washed, clear evening. That last part is the underrated bit: the light over this valley after a storm is the best of the year, and the mountains that are invisible under spring haze become visible again.

The ozone season is generally described as running from around mid-February to mid-June and ending with the first rains, when changing weather conditions improve the dispersion of pollutants. Rain physically removes pollutants from the atmosphere, and reporting describes tropospheric ozone concentrations beginning to decrease from June. One account puts the best period for breathing in Mexico City as June through November, which is precisely the wet season.

The nuance worth holding onto is that the season ends around mid-June rather than at the start of it. Early June can still behave like the tail of May, with the same high-pressure, strong-sun conditions that form ozone. The back half of the month is where the improvement is dependable, and a year with early rains delivers it sooner than a year with late ones.

What we would do differently from May

Less, frankly, and that is the point. The morning-first scheduling that is close to mandatory in May becomes a sensible default rather than a health measure in June, and the reason shifts from ozone to rain. We would still check the air quality index in the first half of the month, and stop bothering in the second half unless the rains are late.

If you have asthma or another respiratory condition and want to see Mexico City in the warmer half of the year, late June is the point at which we would stop steering you away.

Rain replaces air quality as the thing June asks you to work around, and it is a far more manageable constraint because it is predictable.

The shape of a wet-season day

Showers concentrate in the afternoon and evening. They tend to be heavy and short rather than persistent, and they often clear before dinner. Roughly 15 rain days in a 30-day month sounds like half your trip is washed out; in practice it means most days have a wet patch somewhere in the afternoon and are otherwise fine.

What this actually changes

Front-load anything outdoors. Walking tours, bike tours, the pyramids and the canals are all better before 2pm in June, and most operators schedule their main departures in the morning for exactly this reason.

Have a roof in mind for the afternoon, which in this city is an embarrassment of riches rather than a compromise. And carry a light waterproof rather than an umbrella: a Mexico City afternoon storm is heavy enough that an umbrella is of limited use and the streets flood quickly in places.

The one thing genuinely at risk is the sunrise balloon flight over Teotihuacán, which is weather-dependent and cancels more often in the wet season than in the dry. If that is on your list, book it for early in your stay so there is room to reschedule, and check the operator's weather policy before paying.

The Marcha del Orgullo LGBT+ is the largest single event in the Mexico City June calendar and one of the largest Pride marches in Latin America.

It runs on the last Saturday of June. The 2026 edition, the 48th, fell on 27 June and stepped off at 10:00, with contingents gathering at the Ángel de la Independencia and moving along Paseo de la Reforma to the Zócalo. Reported attendance runs above 300,000 people from across the country.

What it means practically

The second is accommodation. June is otherwise a low-season month, but Pride weekend tightens availability in the Centro, Juárez, Roma and Condesa, which are where most visitors want to be. If your dates include the last weekend of June, book earlier than the month would otherwise require.

Our take: if Pride is why you are coming, it is a genuine reason to choose these dates. If it is not, the preceding weekend gives you the same improved air and lower crowds without the closures.

• Bosque de Chapultepec after rain: the park is at its greenest in the wet season and least crowded on a threatening afternoon.
• Museo Nacional de Antropología: the default wet-afternoon plan and the best indoor half-day in the city.
• Biblioteca Vasconcelos: indoors, free, and architecturally worth the trip near Buenavista.
• Covered markets: San Juan, Medellín and Coyoacán are all under a roof and best at lunchtime.
• Rooftop bars after a storm: the clear, washed evening light in the wet season is the best of the year for a view over the city.
